The World Trade Organization (WTO) is inviting applications for the 2025 Young Professionals Programme (YPP). It's for people up to 32 years old by January 1, 2025, from eligible developing economies and least-developed countries (LDCs). Apply by April 2, 2024, to join the WTO Secretariat for a year of professional development.

Overview of the Young Professionals Programme:

Administered by the WTO’s Institute for Training and Technical Co-operation (ITTC), the Young Professionals Programme (YPP) is supported by the Global Trust Fund. It's a platform for qualified young professionals from WTO member nations without much representation in the WTO Secretariat. This program helps participants understand WTO mechanisms and tackle international trade issues.

Objectives of the Programme:

  1. Expanding Representation: The program aims to include professionals from underrepresented WTO members, making the organization more diverse.
  2. Skill Enhancement: Participants gain experience applicable in various roles within international organizations, national governments, and the private sector, particularly in multilateral diplomacy and global trade.

Programme Structure and Application Process:

Selected young professionals will work in specific divisions within the WTO Secretariat. During their year, they'll be involved in WTO initiatives and projects. To apply, complete the online form on the WTO e-Recruitment website and submit a cover letter mentioning up to three preferred areas of work within the WTO.

Eligibility Criteria and Requirements:

Applicants need an advanced university degree in economics, international relations, law, or environmental studies related to WTO’s work by the time of application.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of WTO operations and international trade issues.
  • Proficiency in English, with French or Spanish skills considered advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and drafting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a multicultural environment.
  • Passion for international trade and multilateralism.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum two years of relevant professional experience.

  • Preference given to applicants from WTO Members with limited representation in the WTO Secretariat, especially those from developing and least-developed countries.

Application Deadline and Process:

Applications must be in English with a cover letter indicating up to three areas of interest. Deadline: April 2, 2024. Late applications won't be considered.
